Music Producer

As your music producer my job is to help you produce the Latin music recording that you want to make. My clients select me as their producer as I bring a lot to the team. Here are the key reasons clients select me as their Latin music producer:

First, I am a musician with over 15 years of professional experience in the music industry. I have played latin music (all styles) in clubs, bars, and yes, even on a cruise ship. Second, during this time I have written, arranged, composed, recorded and produced many songs and albums along the way. You can view my discography and download my music. Third, I have a formal music education - so I just don't wing it. I have a Bachelors of Science in Music Industry from the College of Saint Rose (Albany, New York), so I understand everything from music theory to record production and everything in between. As a result, I have the unique combination of Latin music experience and knowledge to bring fresh melodic ideas to your recordings as I am also a competent arranger, composer or songwriter.

In addition to helping instrument any songwriting and arrangement adjustments, my role is to assume leadership (but not control) of the creative mix. Yes, the creative mix. There I said it. Honestly this is the most challenging role of a producer as I am trying to balance your music with the markets commercial interests. My goal is to produce a latin jazz album that you like, but also will be financially successful for you. My job therefore is to keep an eye on the overall projects marketability and this includes sometimes recommending creative modifications. More on this topic later.

As you can see - my role is acting as a go-between, translating your needs and goals, while also protecting your interests as a Latin music recording artist. By the way, I am also balancing your interests as well as the interests of the record label. As the producer, I will also encourage the best musical performance possible. This will mean I will also coach you and direct the backing vocalists (if any).

Due to the financial interests alone, the role of a producer is key element to a record company. As a result you should consider hiring me for your Latin music album if you have a recording budget (even small). Where possible, I will also help with contacts to promote your music and provide music business advice on publishing, royalties, etc.

Most producers (particularly rock or pop music) like to take total control of the project. Again this is necessary due to the financial obligations. However, This is not my style. Instead, I prefer to collaborate with my clients as a creative partner to produce the best tracks possible. I believe strongly in the idea of synergistic partnerships (1+1=3) as it brings both parties personal and professional growth.

Hiring a Music Producer - Things You Should Consider

The most important thing about a selecting a producer is to choose a producer that you like - personally and professionally. Listen to their past music projects - all of them latin, rap, pop, etc. to get an idea for their style and ear. Get a list of credits and even talk to a few of their clients. Finally, and spend some time getting to know them. I like to go out to a club together - and exchange feedback on musical performances. I have found with such interactions they you can determine if we are on the same wavelength (yes pun intended).

Finally, you should hire someone who is really likes your music and knows the musical genre (Latin, jazz, rock, dance, etc). You also need to find someone that is objective enough to offer constructive criticism. Although many people do not like Simon Cowell on American Idol, you need someone like him who will provide their honest opinion while offering constructive advice and recommendations.
